Rancho Palos Verdes Modern Engagement Inspiration Turned Surprise Sunset Proposal

This styled shoot turned proposal meant the world to me because Marta and Pete are good friends of mine! When I moved to L.A., I knew I needed to have Southern California locations in my portfolio so I had asked if they wanted to be my “real couple” models. They agreed and Pete messaged me on the side to ask if he could use this opportunity to propose to Marta. OF COURSE I SAID YES! I couldn’t wait to capture this special moment. I even helped Marta figure out an outfit! We went with 2 pieces (cream top and pants) which she could wear forever which goes along with her sustainable and intentional way of thinking. Never feel like you have to conform to what is "normal"! Invest in pieces that you know you'll wear time and time again.

Here are words from Pete about the proposal:

Jess asked Marta and I if we wanted to do a location scouting/Engagement test shoot at Ranchos Palo Verdes about a week before Marta's 1 year anniversary of living in Los Angeles. Little did Marta know, I had planned a little surprise at the end.

It was a beautiful, sunny day in Rancho Palos Verdes but unfortunately our shoot had a rocky start. Marta was feeling a bit car sick and tired from the 1.5 hour ride, as well as cold from the light breeze we felt at the cliffs. She started to question if this was even a good idea. In order to change the mood, I brought up a quote from Aladdin which we were watching the night before: "Marta, I know you’re not feeling well. Right now, I’m going to be Aladdin and you’re going to be Jasmine. ‘Do you trust me?’”

She laughed a little bit and her mood changed for the better.

Jess made sure we were comfortable and having fun during the entire shoot. She let us play around a little bit and towards the end, we decided to drive towards Point Vincente Lighthouse to catch the sunset for the finale. Once we were setup and positioned, I gave the signal to Jess’ partner who was holding on to the ring. While Marta was looking towards the ocean, I got down on one knee behind her and called our her name. She turned around and I started to ask the question, “Will you marry…” — Before I could finish, she kissed me and I was in heaven. After about 5 minutes of us embracing one another, I asked her “so is that a yes?”
